The Humberside Engineering Training Association (HETA) program is a Group Training Association (GTA) offering apprentices and skills training to engineering students for over 250 companies in the Humber, England region.
About 85% of the program’s coursework involves mechanical or electrical maintenance. Steve Underwood, an engineer by trade and HETA instructor, thought that a course about establishing maintenance plans for plants with a CMMS component would be an extremely relevant addition to the program.
To begin working with eMaint, Steve and the students used eMaint University to learn their way around the system. Students were given autonomy to establish assets, tasks and procedures, preventive maintenance (PM) tasks and ultimately develop complete maintenance plans. They estimated the time to complete each task and produced work orders, as well as associated costs and labor.
Benefits of eMaint CMMS in the Classroom:
- Provides students with familiarity in CMMS while learning to create maintenance plans
- Illustrates the benefits of maintenance planning and scheduling through real-world insight
- Prepares students for future management roles within the maintenance and engineering field
“Using eMaint has helped bring the practical problems of the workplace firmly into the classroom environment and has been a catalyst causing many students to really develop their understanding of the maintenance function.”
