Android Industries Uses eMaint to Streamline Asset Management and Maintain Compliance

Customer Since: 2018 | Industry: Automotive

Android Industries has 19 plants around the world: in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, and Turkey. The company has been an eMaint customer since 2018.

  • Tracked critical spares across 19 global worksites
  • Easily demonstrated compliance for audits
  • Reporting on KPIs, PM completion rates, and downtime

BACKGROUND

Android Industries is a global leader in innovative assembly systems that builds commodities  for automobile companies like GM and Ford, specializing in just-in-time production, meaning speed and accuracy are paramount for the organization.

CHALLENGES

Maintenance crews at Android plants were failing to collect asset data, making tasks like measuring KPIs and tracking downtime a challenge. They sought a user-friendly CMMS that facilitates data collection, reporting, and work order tracking. The crews also needed a reliable system for tracking compliance data, including inventory and preventive maintenance (PM) completion rates.

Android Industries also needed maintenance software for its plant in Turkey. It wanted a CMMS solution that could integrate with all other facilities while providing Turkish language and currency capabilities as needed.

IMPLEMENTATION

Lisa Taylor, a Field Service Engineer, manages eMaint for Android Industries. Taylor uses eMaint to track KPIs, manage inventory, and facilitate asset management.

Before implementing eMaint, the maintenance crew struggled to track key metrics like PM completion and downtime. The traditional spreadsheet approach was too cumbersome,
so operators weren’t collecting sufficient data to create meaningful KPIs.

Taylor also needed a solution to help Android Industries manage its enormous inventory, containing everything from wheel and tire lines to torque tools. Tracking critical spares across 19 plants is a challenge.

QR Codes, Bar Codes, and Customization

Like many other eMaint customers, Lisa Taylor has found creative and useful ways to customize eMaint. She’s implemented a system of QR codes and barcodes to help with asset maintenance, for example. Every production line at the plants has a dedicated QR code, speeding up the work order process. When an employee notices a machine fault, they scan its QR code to submit a maintenance request. This ensures problems aren’t overlooked.

Taylor takes eMaint customization even further; every plant asset has a barcode. When a technician goes out on a work order, they scan the barcode using the eMaint mobile app, and the app immediately displays all necessary asset information. This saves valuable time and increases repair process efficiency.

Tracking Downtime and KPIs

Since implementing eMaint, Taylor says that data collection has become much easier. As a result, KPIs like MTBF and MTTR have improved across the board, along with PM completion. As she explained, “We have seen an increase in all our KPIs because the plants are using the system, and it takes the plant using the system to increase.”

As Android Industries continues to improve its processes, Taylor expects data collection to continue improving, since it’s more user-friendly and easier for new teams to adopt.

Spare Parts Inventory Management

After implementing eMaint, the crew put barcodes on every spare in the system so eMaint can track each one. Now, maintenance teams can easily locate necessary parts. If an item is unavailable at one facility, another plant can ship it overnight upon request. This saves time and money by preventing last-minute orders from vendors.

Audits and Compliance

Android Industries uses eMaint audit dashboards to easily demonstrate compliance with relevant industry regulations. Taylor says the dashboards enable easy access to documentation and reporting, anytime. She also loves the way eMaint creates visualizations, like graphs and charts, to help with the reporting process.

It’s a centralized repository for all of the key audit data, including inventory and PM completions. As Taylor says, it’s hard to imagine passing audits without an organized system – like eMaint.

In fact, Taylor says that eMaint robust reporting features are one of her favorite qualities in the CMMS. As she explains, “My favorite thing about eMaint would be the reporting and how easy the reports are to find and access. They keep track of everything for me, so I don’t have to do it all by hand.”

RESULTS

Thanks to eMaint reporting capabilities, the team is successfully tracking KPIs and sees improvement in every area. Inventory management has also improved dramatically, and teams are able to quickly locate parts as soon as they need them.

To date, Android Industries plans to implement eMaint at 18 more work sites. Taylor is especially excited about using eMaint at the Turkish plant, taking advantage of eMaint X5 multilingual capabilities.
